Lambing

Not really camera related, but nonetheless a topic worth mentioning for me personally

I live in a small Farm where I raise Sheep and Beef, these days mostly sheep because while I love raising the calves they become destructive after a while and I am trying to establish trees on the property to encourage Kererū (NZ pigeon, the ones that get drunk!) to nest and other birds to take up residence.

Every year it’s almost a given that we’ll get the odd Orphan Lamb and some we can save and others we just can’t no matter what you do. I’m privileged to be up close with these wool little lambs and to see first hand what they endure from the minute they’re born.

Today is no exception, one of our previous Orphan Lambs Ewe’s has given birth to twins, a wee Ewe and a Ram Lamb, but unfortunately and for some unknown reason the Ewe is not really interested in them both so they are now residing in my office where the wood burner is on and they are wrapped in an old fleece top of mine.

I have my doubts that the Ewe lamb will make it because she’s incredibly weak but the Ram lamb might be ok if i can get him warmed up and fed later, fingers crossed they both make it.
